Different Diseases Related to Ringworms


Different ointments and lotions for curing ringworms can be seen on the market. However, it may cost a lot of money. In fact, some people tend to buy these products in order to cure it but fortunately, there is no result.
Perhaps you misdiagnosed it as ringworm. It could be another type of skin disease not caused by fungi or any other bacteria. It could be psoriasis, eczema or a simple skin allergy further worsens by the wrong application of medicine. To prevent this situation from happening, it is strongly advised to understand other diseases that may look like ringworm aside from knowing the disease itself.

It is very uncomfortable, inconvenience, expensive and sometimes may lead to more serious problem if you mistaken another skin disease to be a ringworm or the other way around. Several types of skin disease have a strong resemblance with ringworm. Various skin diseases are commonly mistaken as ringworms for they have the same symptoms and shapes.

Here is a list of other diseases that may look like ringworm:
1. Psoriasis – Just like ringworm, psoriasis is characterized by a round shape, dry and scaly patches or plaques. This disease is not transmissible though.
2. Eczema – This disease is commonly mistaken as ringworm because of the same resemblance or similarity of appearance of the two. Both are characterized by swelling, redness, dry and patchy scales. Eczema can be found usually in the flexor aspects of joints.
3. Vitiligo – The same redness, patchy scales and ringworm shape are its features that are commonly mistaken for ringworms.
4. Saborrheic – Dermatitis. This is a chronic skin disease with redness and inflammation in the infected part of your body.
5. Allergy – Some allergies are also mistaken as ringworm for they have the same type of redness, patches and symptoms too.

Ringworm treatment is different from treatment of these other diseases. If you made wrong medications, it may lead to a more serious health problem. Knowing these differences and its proper medication is necessary. Moreover, you are able to prepare yourself and know what to do in case you obtained this type of illness.
