A Cat infected with Ringworm
Ringworm can be very easily transmitted from an animal to a person to another person. Although highly contagious, you can easily prevent these cases by keeping your surroundings clean and tidy. Taking care of your pets is one of the best ways to prevent the occurrence of ringworm in your family. Cats, like other domestic animals, can easily acquire ringworm when moving around the house or going outside. Their bodies are often moist and warm which would be ideal for the development of ringworm. Having direct contact to the skin lesions may result to immediate contamination. Therefore, it is highly advisable to take utmost care when treating your pets with ringworm.
You can use several home remedies for treating ringworm in cats. Bathing your cat with a lime sulfur dip can be an ideal shampoo treatment for ringworm. You can also purchase an antifungal shampoo available on your local drugstore. Since cats are not accustomed to bathing regularly, you can bathe your cat with the treated shampoo every four to six days.
The hair around the affected area usually falls of and mixes with the lesions. This can be very irritating and can even worsen the skin infection. Shaving the hair around the infected area can help prevent further developments of ringworm. Be extra careful in shaving the hair for a minor wound can lead into a serious infection due to the fungal organisms present on the area. Vaccinating your cat can also increase its immunity to fungal diseases such as ringworm.
