Ringworm is a type of skin disease that is caused by fungi that feed from dead cells in the skin, hair and even in the nail. It is characterized by redness, swelling, itchiness and patches in the infected part of the body. Ringworm is generally caused by fungi. However, other external factors may also increase the risk of getting the disease. Factors such as those with compromised immune system can make the person prone to ringworms. People suffering HIV and diabetes are likely to have it also.

If left untreated ringworm may spread all throughout your body. It can be transferred from one to another through direct contact. Ringworm treatment comes in different forms. It can be made only at home or upon supervision by a dermatologist. The typical treatment for ringworm includes use of anti fungal crème, ointments, sprays and lotions. Over the counter medicines are easy to find, for these medications do not need a prescription from a doctor. Oral medicines are also available for curing ringworm. Alternative medicines are likewise used for mild to minor skin infection. One of them is through oil treatment.

Ringworm oil treatment is used to prevent skin spread of infection. This treatment should be used continuously because although the fungi disappeared upon application, it may reappear again. Fungi are hard to eliminate, much more if it cause ringworms. It should be applied for three to four weeks to eliminate it. Ringworms who keep on coming back are harder to kill.

Oil treatment for ringworm is usually made up of grapefruit seed extract and tea tree oil. The use of grapefruit seed extract has long been practiced and is proven to have therapeutic effect particularly against infections caused by bacteria, parasites, viruses and fungi.

On the other hand, tea tree oil is an effective anti fungal, anti bacterial and anti viral alternative medicine. It is soothing, disinfecting, anti-inflammatory and analgesic as well. There are many claims about the use of tea tree oil to have cured many infections including ringworm.
